Walk of Honor

The memorial walkway at McPherson American Legion Post 24 is more than a path—it is a place of honor, remembrance, and community legacy. The engraved paving stones tell the stories of service, courage, and honor of past and present McPherson County veterans. Stretching along Main Street beside the wrought iron fence, this walkway invites the public to pause, reflect, and remember the men and women who have served our nation.

Honor Their Service with a Lasting Tribute

Families and friends may purchase commemorative paving stones to celebrate the lives and sacrifices of their veterans. With space for up to 1,500 stones, each paver becomes part of a visible, permanent tribute that generations to come will see.

You may choose:

→ 4″ x 8″ stone — $60 (up to 3 lines, 15–18 characters per line)

→ 8″ x 8″ stone — $120 (up to 6 lines, 15–18 characters per line)

Laser-engraved military branch symbols may be included for an additional $10. Please note that adding a symbol will reduce the number of characters available per line.

In addition, families may purchase a miniature keepsake paver (1 ½” x 3″) for $20. This small stone carries the same inscription as the larger paver and allows loved ones to keep a personal reminder of their veteran’s service wherever they go.

All inscriptions are reviewed by Post 24 officers to ensure the dignity and integrity of the memorial.

Finding a Veteran’s Paver

To help you locate your loved one’s paver, an alphabetized list of veterans is provided below. Each entry shows whether the stone is on the North side or South side of the walkway, divided by the driveway.

→ Both sides have 24 rows.

→ The South side contains 34 columns.

→ For example, if the listing shows South, Row 10, Column 3, you will walk to the South side (side closest to the Legion building), count 3 columns over, and then count down 10 rows to find the paver.

This project is more than stone and engraving—it is about pride, legacy, and community. Every step along the walkway tells a story of courage and service, reminding us daily of the veterans who have given so much.
